He was the “on call” weekend tech. So yes, he had to be available at any time for two days in a row. Last week, my home’s boiler finally died after 49 years of service. Those things are only supposed to last 10–20 years, so we got lucky. Anyway, I had to call my local Proud Black African American Ladies Black History Month T Shirt repair place. They sent a tech, and, like I always do when repair guys come over, I chatted with him about how he got into the business.I found out that he was 29 and the youngest tech at the company. He said his wife was the daughter of another tech there, and his father-in-law got him into the business. He’d never considered that sort of job when he was younger. He said the owner of the company loved him because he was young and American, which is rare for that field around here.
